A guide to LAN based internet connectivity

Introduction

In todays world internet is the basic need. we use many IOT devices in our day to day life for which internet is must. To connect all the devices to internet we need LAN.                   In this post we are seeing about the various LAN networks (wired and wireless) useful in home, office, schools, institutions etc...

And we will know some information about STARLINK      .

What is LAN ?

local area network (LAN) is a collection of devices connected together in one physical location, such as a building, office, or home. A LAN can be small or large, ranging from a home network with one user to an enterprise network with thousands of users and devices in an office or school.

Ethernet and Wi-Fi are the two most common technologies in use for local area networks. Historical network technologies include ARCNETToken Ring, and AppleTalk.

A LAN can be small or large, ranging from a home network with one user to an enterprise network with thousands of users and devices in an office or school.

Hierarchical layered model in LAN design

The design of a LAN network is critical to communication within the enterprise.

There are three layers that we should implement depending on the size of the organization.

  • Core layer
  • Distribution layer
  • Access layer.

The figure below shows how the implementation of this hierarchy can be achieved.

Wired LAN

Wired networks, also called Ethernet networks, are the most common type of local area network (LAN) technology. A. wired network is simply a collection of two or more computers, printers, and other devices linked by Ethernet cables.

The advantages of using wired connections include dedicated bandwidth instead of having share with other users, less attacks of network traffic interruptions, and less susceptible to interference and outages than wireless access points.
Use wired ports for desktops and computer labs instead of wireless.

An Ethernet connection is generally faster than a WiFi connection and provides greater reliability and security.

Wireless LAN (WLAN)

wireless router, also called a Wi-Fi router, combines the networking functions of a wireless access point and a router. A router connects local networks to other local networks or to the Internet. ... A wireless router is sometimes referred to as a WLAN (wireless local area network) device.

A Local Area Network (LAN) is the collection of wired and Wi-Fi connected devices in your home or office. This is your personal network. Your computer, phone, tablet, router, etc.

Anyone can setup a LAN network as per their need.

Wireless Internet access is no more expensive than wired access - the service is essentially the same. ... Typically, you can rent a wireless router from your Internet service provider for a nominal monthly fee. Or you can buy one for less than RS7500.

The wireless lan gives user flexibiliy, and mobility. And it is easy to install as compared to wired LAN network.

STARLINK

Starlink is a futuristic satellite based internet service project developed by SpaceX  .(It is still in underprogress)

It is a satellite internet constellation being constructed by SpaceX providing satellite Internet access. The constellation will consist of thousands of mass-produced small satellites in low Earth orbit, working in combination with ground transceivers.                                                                       After signal received it get connected with various IOT devices using a LAN network.

Summary                                                                                                                              we have seen the different internet providing services based on LAN network.

I hope it is useful for you to understand which type of LAN network  is suitable for your need.
